Dante’s Inferno, created by Visceral Games has proven to be an incredible challenge for those of us at The Farm to review. I mean, we are Southern Fried Gamer, and while very little is taboo here at The Farm, being located between notch 1 and notch 2 of the Bible Belt, has afforded us the right to say “Y’all need Jesus” So with all this in mind, here is our review.
Storyline
This game is ultimately about Dante, played by you, finding redemption from all his previous sins and trangressions, while trying to save Beatrice, Dante’s love interest, from a fate of eternal damnation as the reigning Queen of Hell. Within this story, you get to make choices about who you will help find redemption along the way, by choosing to either absolve or punish those you find in the fiery pit with you. We feel that we would be shirking our responsibilities as bonafide game gurus if we didn’t tell you that we were turned off by the content of the story and the fact that we now believe there should be a rating stronger than mature for games such as this. As parents ourselves, (our son was born with a controller in his hand and owns a few mature rated games) we should let the readers know that this game will never see the light of day in our child’ s room. Dante who? if you get my drift. To wrap it up, this game is and never was meant for sensitive gamers.
Gameplay
Dante’s Inferno has God of War like gameplay with your character fighting through wave after wave of onslaughts by a multitude of demonistic enemies. The puzzles and challenges of this game break the monotony of the fighting. There are also some very decent finishing move scenarios and while we have compared the game to God Of War, please let it be known that this game falls short compared to God of War on actual gameplay; however we found it to be much more challenging.
Graphics
Let me start by saying that there are some truly great graphics in this game, so long as the action is in a lull or there is a cut scene; however once the forward momentum of the action has gotten into full swing we found that the graphics suffered substantially. We really feel that this is nearly unacceptable for a game being played on a console(PS3) capable of having tremendous visual prowess.
Audio
This game offers a wonderful audio setting within a surround sound environment. It is very dynamic, in that it is loud when it’s supposed to be and softer where it’s needed. The voice acting is more than competent and lends itself well to the gaming experience. All in all, very decent audio.
In closing, let us just say that this game has the potential to offend many gamers, so perhaps you should think about renting it before shelling out $60. And Visceral, we’ll be praying for you.
*Note: if Visceral hadn’t went for the shock value of this game, we feel that it would have been so much better.*
We give this game a fair 5 out of 10.

Gow of War was God of War no real change to the formula. I was a little disappointed that the engine build was over 6 months old. IT would have been cool to see a little of the graphical enhancements ,since it was kind of their coming out party with the demo and a whole show on gttv. Yakuuza was cool, I really liked how they left it in japanese i am a big fan of chop sockey flicks so i loved the subtitles. The bad part is the graphics sucked, you would think open world games would look at least as gta4 2 years later
yep, dl it and the Yakuza demo’s, so if you are wondering where the farmhands went to, we are doing what we like to call “research” more posts later on today!
on a side note did anyone download the 3 gig gow3 demo
well it features a real good voice actor luke skywalker i am so glad that arkham asylum used the voice characters from the animated series.
absolutly Will, games are about fun. we often overlook that aspect. Glad you are enjoying darksiders. I liked the voice acting the most in that game. From the raw and rugged sameal to the watcher, just good work.
i have been enjoying darksiders (thanks sfg) because it doesn’t take itself serious and very quietly THQ is making a very strong case as my second fav publisher behind sony because their games graphics and qc are usually a notch or two below the others, people always kind of pan the games and they usually end up really cheap in the used bin but their games are usually really fun. Darksiders is a very unoriginal game but it is fun saints row was fun and even the 50 cent game had its moments and isnt what games are supposef to be about FUN?
“Y’all need Jesus”
loved it!!
when watching c_raser and her husband play this game thru for the review, I couldnt help but think that the game wasnt original enough in itself to get out of that shadow you mentioned Will. the source material was there, just needed better fleshing out. the story didnt need the “shock” value it was given by visceral.
from only playing the demo and seeing screen shots i think this game suffers because it tries to take itself so serious and the ludacris marketing it tried. with the gow3 shadow looming it isn’t looking good especially since gow3 has more preorders in us alone than this game has total sales
