E3 is right around the bend Folks. The big three behemoths are getting ready to do battle for the treasures locked inside the gamers wallets. Will Sony deliver like they did last year? Will Microsoft bring the rain? Will Nintendo cater to more than just the casuals? Lets take a look at some possible, but unlikely announcements for E3. First up is Microsoft.
Number One: Gears of War 3
Okay, this one is a no brainer right here, a gimme if you will. Expect Epic Games “Big Guns” to be on hand, you know they will be, to take the stage at Microsoft’s press conference to announce Gears of War 3 exclusive to the Xbox 360. Do not expect them to make a hype train out of it. You should be shocked if you hear the words “Bigger, Better, and more Badass” come from anyone on the Epic side of the announcement.
Number two: Project Natal
The Project Natal hype train has taken on a life of its own. At E3 09 Microsoft set the media on fire with the announcement of Project Natal and the tech world went nuts. It was the talk of the town. The bad part is that the hype train was headed to casualville without even a slight detour towards hardcore land.
Sony has come out swinging recently with the PS3 Move, Sonys version of motion control for this generation and Nintendo has their thing going on with the Wii that Microsoft has to step up its own game with Project Natal. It is very possible that Microsoft “breaks bad” and shows off some games intended for the hardcore gamer. It has been said that MS has many third party developers making games for Natal, what better place or time then to show them than at E3?
However, it is even more possible that Microsoft wants to keep Project Natal geared towards the casual. If thats the case, we should expect more in the way of social connections as seen in this video here
Number 3: Xbox Live gives Silver members more access.
Alright lets face it, Microsoft is never going to make online multiplayer free. It is their own gravy made for their own biscuits. Multiplayer is the only reason gamers pay for Xbox Live. It is the most user friendly system for online gaming. If you think otherwise then you have been what we in the south call “touched”. Microsoft knows this, the media knows this and more importantly, gamers also share this knowledge.
Microsoft is really wanting to tap into the casual market though. They got their feet wet with the NXE dashboard and are making a serious push to become the go to entertainment device with the upcoming release of Project Natal. So whats the next big step for Microsoft to carve out their slice of casual pie? Let Xbox Live silver members receive all the benefits that are commonly available through other devices. Let the soccer moms out there access Facebook and Twitter. Allow them to scroll through Netflix minority report style. Let them have that experience that we see in the above video. Let them do this without having to use little Jimmys Xbox Live Gold membership and what better place to announce this than at this year’s E3?
Number Four: Metal Gear Solid: Rising Timed Exclusive
It is said that the early bird gets the worm. What would be a bigger megaton on the Internet than the announcement of a timed exclusive on Konami’s MGSR?
Number Five: Insomniac Games games Announces Xbox 360 Exclusive
Microsoft has made no secret of the fact that they are after franchises that were previously only seen on the Sony Playstation consoles. From Grand Theft Auto to Final Fantasy they have succeeded in their efforts. So what is the next thing that Microsoft can take from Sony? They can take 2nd party developers. Since Insomniac is not owned by Sony, who’s to stop them from turning to the new rooster in the hen house?
While it is doubtful that any of these possibilities will take place, it doesn’t mean that it is impossible. If any of these possibilities took place it would be a serious blow to the competition. What do you think will happen with Microsoft at this years E3? Leave a comment below.

It is going to take a ton of development support to keep this thing running and since the news ,I read a story yesterday about how natal may be delayed do to the fact that the twin cameras put off radiation.
sorry bk didn’t realize it was that. n4g had it in the pending section. I too thought it was odd it wasn’t said anywhere else
You almost got me with that one will, if it hadnt been for the date of April 1, 2010, I would of been diggin for hours to try and find out what that was all about.
yeah here it is http://consolemonster.com/newspost.php?id=0000006749
I have been fairly busy the last couple of days Will, do you have a link to that? I would love to read it.

I don’t think insomniac will make a 360 game.
they are very familiar with the ps3 and it would be counter productive to switch consoles mid generation.
I also think Natal will be hyped so much that there will be no way it can live up.
While these possibilities sure seem possible (though the Insomniac one is totally out there), few of them are actually very compelling. More info on Natal is a given, though I do wish they could show it off in an environment that isn’t perfectly designed for the tech to work. You know, an environment more like our bloody living rooms.
Gear of War 3 is expected and won’t disappoint, but the series doesn’t have the punch it used to have. Hype will be high, but slightly more tamer than Gears 2.
MGS timed exclusive would be quite interesting…would definitely heat up the competition once more. I’m still not convinced timed exclusivity really means anything. I would still be playing MW2 if the map pack came out on PS3 at the same time instead of selling it.
wow i make a comment and the fanboys go nuts I didn’t think I bashed anything
wow where did that come from? why the hate against the euro?
Well I hope they announce an Xbox 360 slim, because I hate the xbox 360 console so much!
and announce a better dual layer disc!
well i hope at E3 they are giving away some microsoft points or somthing because they are burning a hole in my pocket…..im being serious.

Japan yes, in Europe it is pretty much even with NA being MS territory. Go ahead and brag about your precious euro, won’t mean much when islam invades europe with their 60+ million already residing.
you have to love the unproductive comments that fuel the fanboy wars…will_c out
Sorry Lord Vader, had to edit that.

I think the reason they are having two confrences is ,because they want natal to be by itself in a controlled enviroment to show off anything they have worth while. It is going to take a ton of development support to keep this thing running and since the news broke about how it can use up to 15% of the xbox’s power. I think it is going to have to take alot of dough to get timed exclusives nowadays. Xbox may be owning in the us it is lagging everywhere else and with the conversion rate of the dollar they make more money off the ps3.
