E3 is right around the bend Folks. The big three behemoths are getting ready to do battle for the treasures locked inside the gamers wallets. Will Sony deliver like they did last year? Will Microsoft bring the rain? Will Nintendo cater to more than just the casuals? Let’s take a look at some possible; but, unlikely announcements for E3. Lets take a look at Sony.
Number One: Mass Effect comes to the PS3
SFG may be reaching here, but we don’t think that we are reaching very far. With the market becoming more and more cut throat as gamers tighten up the security of their checking accounts, it makes it harder and harder for third party developers to keep franchises exclusive to one console. Just this month we have seen “proof” of Ubisoft possibly sneaking Sam Fisher onto the Playstation brand. Let us not forget that there is already code for Mass Effect 2 on both the Xbox 360 and PC versions showing the PS3.
Under the right hands, the Unreal Engine works great on the PlayStation 3 and Mass Effect 2 is the cleanest example of that engine on consoles today.
Number Two: Move is hyped to Infinity and Beyond!
After watching this video here, there is absolutely no way that Sony is going to let this opportunity go by. Sony wants to reach out to the kid who got the Nintendo Wii and is now a teenager looking for a more rounded game experience. It is possible that Sony shows off way more than just SOCOM 4.
It is reasonable possible for Sony to show off a lot of their Move technology in ways that the casuals will embrace. We expect to see move integrated into PlayStation Home. Imagine the Dance Moves your Avatar could pull off then!
Number Three: Kevin Butler, VP of E3 will give the Sony Press Conference
Microsoft has been holding a clinic on how to give a proper E3 Press Conference. Giving a rock concert worthy performance of big names in the music industry to flashy lights and lasers, Microsoft has forever changed the way Press Conferences for the Industry are given. It is possible that Sony has finally learned the lesson that they should have learned two years ago. Go Big!
Sony appears to be on a roll lately, partly due to this guy right here. The Kevin Butler character has become the face of Sony’s PlayStation 3. He is already pitching the Move in this latest commercial to hit youtube. Why not let him host the whole show? He could give the intro’s for everything and it would have an immediate impact on the media and consumers alike. The writers for the character have clearly shown a talent at delivering great one liners as evidenced by “TheKevinButler” twitter account and “Dear PlayStation” ad campaigns.
Number Four: Introduction of Premium PlayStation Network
Sony has been “flatlined” on the PSN since the introduction of the revamped store front. Lets face it, Sony’s online component of the PS3 system is not user friendly for gaming and socializing with other gamers. Multiplayer gamers on the PS3 have been asking for a more streamlined interface to connect with their online friends. Gamers are also asking for a cross game chatting system. Downloading updates or anything of substantial size off the PSN Store seems to take forever.
How does Sony solve these problems? With the introduction of a Premium PlayStation Network. By leaving users with the ability to continue to play online multiplayer and adding a Top of the Line communication system for gamers and increasing download speeds for a very, very, small fee, Sony could turn more than a few heads towards their system for their online gaming needs. If Sony announced this it could be the most exciting piece of news to come from E3 this year. But its got to be slick, Sony can not come out half cocked on this, else the Industry media will not be kind to them.
Number Five: The Long Goodbye to the PS2
Sony’s PlayStation 2 is the most successful home gaming console ever built. It was home to some of the most famous of games. It had support from the industry that neither Nintendo, Sega, or Microsoft could have ever hoped to accomplish in the same time frame. This console has seen a life span that no other console has seen. Microsoft dropped support for the first Xbox like a bad habit after the release of the Xbox 360 and Nintendo was stagnant on the GameCube. Only Sony had the fortunate problem of dividing resources between two home consoles.
It is possible that Sony will make the announcement around E3 to finally lay the “beast” to rest. We don’t expect Sony to make any mention of bringing back backwards compatibility for the PS3 until retailers have cleared out their supply chain. Once that takes place it is possible for Sony, through a system firmware update, to give the owners of the newer PlayStation 3 models the ability to play PS2 games.
Number Six: Bungie takes the Stage
In what could be the most outlandish and far reaching possibility, formerly owned Microsoft first party developer Bungie Studios could take the Sony stage and announce a new game franchise for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC/Mac. Such a move would take the wind out of Microsoft’s sails and have Sony walk out of E3 as the clear “winner”.
While it is doubtful that any of these possibilities will take place, it doesn’t mean that it is impossible. If any of these possibilities took place it would be a serious blow to the competition. What do you think will happen with Sony at this years E3? Leave a comment below.

I learned a lot reading this, thanks for that.
good us ps3′ers don’t get it till tuesday
Sure, why not?
bk are you going to dl the back breaker demo would love to hear how it plays and handles
the thing with all the sequels though it plays right into sony’s hands, because of the built in fanbase they can add the move controller to it. lbp2 has said it will use it with a taster at launch but they said it will be opened up quite a bit, they showed SOCOM4 using it and zipper said it only took a couple of hours to get it up and runnin effectively. so i see it being patched to MAG, and the same control scheme can be used for resistance 3 and killzone 3. use it as a sword and sheild in demon souls 2, GT5 said it was going to use it. so that will help sony attach itself to the hardcore with move until proper development comes out for a AAA title built for it, and those names will help the MOVE over kicking at shadow balls. I also think NATAL is in serious trouble. The fact they haven’t shown anything new and only the balls and not the even the other stuff they demoed at e3 last year is very suspicious. Sony has beeen proud showing the hell out of it getting it into alot of peoples hands. The Natal E3 event is another telling sign, the fact it is already being displayed in an uber-controlled enviroment then they bring circ de soule or how even you spell it, smells like smoke and mirrors to me. sorry for the long posts
you know, I like what you are saying here and it was something that I dont think many people think about
I have not really put much thought in it, after the last one busted like it did, I figured it was time to back off of those for a while.
so what is the next giveaway? An all expense paid trip to e3 for who ever comments the most?
also of note that of those 14 new IPs, most of them have competition with the other new IP. there is 2 racing games being compared to each other (split second/ blur) 2 fps ( singularity/ Brink) 2 3rd person shooters (vanquish/ quantum theory) and 2 hack and slash games (enslaved/ hunter:demons forge). Of the 6 remaining titles there are I feel 3 of them are going to be tough sells even though they are games I am interested in.
Back breaker, I love the euphoria engine as long as they can speed it up force unleashed played you were walking through sand. The theory and customisation of this title looks great but the nfl is king the players are kings and madden’s sales have slipped so is there room on the shelf for this…I hope so but i doubt it. It will be a 20 dollar pick up by the end of summer.
Naughty bear is a game that looks fun at least from the videos but it also looks like it should have been a dl title it would sell more i bet at a lower price. I thought this about the about the the very under rated mini ninja game. The problem is we really havent seen any game play and this title keeps getting compared to a game they handed out at burger king.
Def jam rapstar looks fun we like music games at my house but music games sales are slipping ,the freakin beatles in an amazingly beautiful package barely scraped more than a couple mil sales between 3 consoles.
The last 3 will all do pretty well, Alpha protocol kinda looks like a spy mass effect. LA noire looks to have beautiful graphics but it has a similiar game coming from its own publisher in Mafia II. The last one is a wild card being DC universe, played mag it works well havent ran into any lag but that is all drab colors how will a colorful mmo work on a comsole and not have it look and move like crap
I would like to share something I found discouraging for the future of games. I was curious about new IPs, so I went to gamestop.com and did a search through all 360 and ps3 games listed til the end of the year. I did not count any sequels or reimaginings or budget titles. I counted 14 new IP’s and only 1 of them is an exclusive and that is dc universe for ps3. that tells me that the companies are playing it a little safe only making sequels. what does everyone expect at e3 sequels. Killzone 3 , resistance 3, infamous 2, lbp 2, twisted metal, socom 4 and so on from sony and that is just a partial list . For ms they have halo reach, fable 3 and few other sequels have been rumored (pgr4) and the rest of their e3 will be 3rd party developers announcing and showing sequels COD5 RB3 Gears3. Hopefully they get sequelitis out of their system and next year will be all about new.
i hear that. i finally get the house to myself for the weekend and make a gamestop bargin bin stop for a weekend of gaming.
right now I am supposed to be doing Bad Company 2, but I am having a hard time getting to play it. Not the games fault though, it is fun. too many things going on and not enough hours in the day.
yes it looks really exciting so what games are you guys gonna review soon
yep, looks sweet. good job on the prediction will, cant wait to see what else sony brings to the table this year
see that I nailed the LBP 2 rumor. apparently it is going to be a total game creator
I hear that, I am about amonth away from my heavy work load I am glad summer is a light time for gaming releases
yeah we alive, just busy, spring isnt nice around the Farm!, dont worry though, the farm will be back in full swing come monday!
anyone alive in here?
sorry that got cut off. but as i was saying as the years go on technology gains more efficent power in a smaller and cheaper package. They could make it an exclusive bundle package with the”move” for $399 for the holidays and i would guarantee rapid growth and attachment rate for the move.

I had a thought what if sony brought out a new console and that is why there are shortages. Upgraded chips and ram and bluray player. still the same coding just help eliminate loading times and a little more power for the upcoming mmo’s
actually i bought sacred 2 at gamestop new for 20 and i think it is a better playthrough than dragons age but it dont really have a story
much better than dragon age! Dragon age is a really good game, but the visuals are just plain terribly.
are the visuals better than dragons age because i wasn’t very impressed with the graphics and numerous people said the PS3 version was better
Will, only the ME2 was on two discs, and after installing those two discs on the harddrive I think it was only around 16 gigs worth. So there would be no problem for EA to put both games on one bluray disc.
relax alex, I am sorry that you dont like the Mass Effect series, but there is alot of PS3 only gamers that would be more than happy to play Mass Effect on their PS3. and your list is good.
mass effect is poo, and no one wants it with the ridicolous list of games coming out, masseffect is old news. crap, and old, news. worse than yesterdays news, this is last weeks news.
and my list is the truth.
only if it was done right and not a bioshock type port. Plus did both MEs come on 2 discs? If so they would both fit on a blu-ray plus extras. GOY edition any one. It sold fast but died quick on 360
can u imagine mass effect on the ps3, how beautiful would that game be in blu?
i am not saying that i wouldn’t buy ME BK I just dont think it would warrant an e3 announcement, unless it was a footnote in a surprise bioware announcement saying their star wars game was coming to ps3
FINALLY! Someone knows why Sony seized backwards compatibility on the PS3, till the PS2′s supply chain in major stores is COMPLETELY ambolished in ALL major stores, Sony’s not going to bring backwards compatibility to the PS3, the Sony PS3 is MORE THAN capable of backwards compatibility, but not until the PS2′s supply is ambolished =1
SO QUIT BUYIN THOUSANDS of PS2s!!
AND START BUYING HUNDREDS OF PS3s!!!
YEAH KEVIN BUTLER!!! THAT WOUD BE AWESOME!!!
LOL YEAH KEVIN BUTLER!!! THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!!
After playing the demo of SC: Conviction, I am not that impressed. I will still get it and review it, but I dont have high hopes for it. As for Mass Effect, I will eat those table scraps all day long, Will.
For those of you interested here is SFG’s review of Mass Effect 2
I don’t think sony would announce mass effect or SC:conviction at e3, they as a company are trying to move towards their future not off of MS table scraps.
im expecting a butler announcement for ssx,
or another similar AAA game that ms wont have and will br crying about,
just remember the tissues for those tears ms fanboys,.
and for everyone else, pants, fresh ones,
theres gonna be a lot of xbox fanboys waling arrond stiking of sh** when they set their eyes on sonys 1080p games.

- Conviction is confirmed for PS3.
- Bungie is working on the PS3.
- PS3 code is inside Mass Effect 2 (yeah it does matter, you don’t go out of your way to code for a platform you will not support… remember the Bioshock code?)
The PS3 had by far the biggest lineup at where it is now. Here comes the only games worth talking about on the 360 jumping ship (granted Halo isn’t going any where, but the guys behind it are). Aside from the stellar Gears franchise, that went out with a wimper with Gears 2 falling on it’s face, you also have Cliffy B the mastermind of Gears working on a confirmed PS3 title (multiplat).
It’s over for Microsoft. And with developers being quoted as calling Natal “shit” from using it…. yeah… not looking good.
Then on top of that, add in Killzone 3, Resistence 3, Twisted Metal, more details on Versus 13, The Last Guardian, etc. etc.
Pack your bags Microsoft, time to ditch another console and admit defeat.
And Nintendo Wii… lol… yeah let’s not talk about the last gen.
Given your Microsoft possibilities included a part about Insomniac working on the 360, it certainly would be quite an interesting turn around to see the other big independent studio go multiplatform as well. This could be…explosive
A premium PSN network would be kind of interesting, but I think you’re a bit harsh on the PSN. To be honest, I’ve never had an issue with it nor have I ever seen slow download speeds. In fact, many of the TV shows and movies I download end up going fast enough for me to start watching the full thing after only a minute of downloading. A full TV show tends to finish in less than 20 minutes.
Kevin Butler is win. Enough said.
Mass Effect coming to the PS3 would be awesome…
I still bought and played it on PC (the only place to play Bioware games), but it’d be nice to get me mates in on the awesomeness.
really i think psn premier is a good, idea, i play a lot and i would like cross game chat, hour long demos, faster download times and shit like that, there will always be a free online so it dosent really matter and if mass effect and bungie (game) come to the ps3 that is a knock out punch O.K on Microsoft, all they got from ps3 i a mgs that is not being developed by hideo kojima
psn premium should never be mentioned ever again ever
i think with sony you will see KZ 3, R3, Infamous 2. A gt5 release date. Possibly a couple AAA games for the move, and existing title list to be patched for the move. The one wild card that keeps getting leaked then squashed very rapidly is LBP 2. What if it came out all crazy like you could make your levels in first or third person or side scroller, and they let you use set pieces from sony other brands ( resistance, drake, ratchet and clank, killzone and gow and such. ) that would be a game to own just to see what the community could do with it.
I believe the article says they are former first party devs, jones
bungie is not a microsoft 1st party studio.. they are 3rd party and have talked about doing ps3 games.. its a definite possibility
