Mia Michaels of So You Think You Can Dance: A Racist or Just Evil?

Fox’s Hit Show, So You Think You Can Dance, is one of The Farm Favorites here at SFG. However, it has become rather obvious to the Farmhands that Mia Michaels seems to have either a racist or nasty attitude while holding the judging position. A position that clearly has no room for this type of behavior. And while we may be totally off base here, the S#!t is still deep on the dance floor and apparently after checking into it, we aren’t the only ones concerned here on the web. If you don’t believe us, google it.

We first became concerned after Mia Michaels’ obvious dislike of Brandon in Season 5 and then again in her horrible remarks to Adechike. Both Brandon and Adechike being African American Males with enough talent to be in the top 10 on this hit show. No one with eyes could deny the brilliant skill of Brandon, except for maybe Mia. Mary Murphy openly disagreed with Mia on the subject, as did all of America. And we here at SFG are not saying that we thought Adechike was great, but he definitely was something, not nothing as Mia Michaels had stated in this weeks performance episode.

While we are not accusing Mia Michaels of being racist ourselves, we do question it. And her evil side has continued to amaze us with her uncalled for remarks and snide comments regarding the contestants. We feel she makes Simon Cowell look like an angel, as unbelievable as that may sound. A couple of examples include her absolute tear down of Kherington in the Jean-Marc Vienese Waltz and her rude remark to Will about how he must be getting tired of carrying his partner, Jessica. And who can forget the blatant stab at the US Marine Corp when she wore Dress Blues with an upside down Marine Emblem on her sleeve during the week of the anti-war dances?

Now, with a not too sincere apology to Adechike on the eliminations episode, The Farm is wondering when Fox will diagnose the Mia infection so the health of “So You Think You Can Dance” can be restored.

So we are asking our readers: Is Mia Michaels a racist or just plain evil? Tell us what you think by leaving a comment.

I don’t know about racist, but some of her criticisms are personal and unprofessional. When she told the tap dancer that they voted the wrong person off the previous week, that was uncalled for. She definitely seems to have something against Adechike. Maybe she should “watch the replay” to see how badly she comes across. Adam gets it right, he gives positve and negative criticism without being offensive.

Put on a blindfold and then listen to Mia Michaels’ comments to all the dancers, and you’ll hear the negatives she gives everyone, as well as the praise. She is a tough judge in general. She does prefer certain styles (hers) and that may also influence how she is perceived. There are wonderful positive people like Adam Shankman, and then there are others…

I have never heard of Mia michaels or the racist claims. Bones and House are the only Fox shows I ever watch since 24 ended….HOWEVER….as a former Marine, I would like to know what the hell she was thinking when she wore the Dress Blues. If she wasn’t in the Corps, she just made the “naughty” list.

all you people look for the slightest little thing to shout “racist”. oh my GOD let it go. its the age old argument– whatever an anglo says about another person of color MUST be racist but its ok, and frankly condoned, when those same people of color attack anglos. we all have to be LESS sensitive, not more. when Jesse Jackson says a black man making 14 million a year to play sports is being treated like a house n***** (his word), well cry me a river!!! treat me like one PUHLEEZ! lighten up already.

Something I have noticed is when non black people suck she calls them out in and may be rude, but in the end of the day they did suck. But when black people do a great job she puts them down even though they did a great job. That to me is racism. SORRYYYYYYYYYY. Shes very hostile towards black people it seems. There were dances a million times worse that night

Actually, her apology was almost the same one she made to Brandon. (Again after the fact, and when fans have called her on her attitude). It doesn’t seem sincere because she doesn’t change her behaviour, you can’t say you are sorry and mean it and then do the same thing the next week.

Also, what you can ask yourself is…if a white man or asian man was dancing the Bollywood routine, would she have said it seemed African? Nigel was so nervous, but he tried to repair the situation, but not well.

I thank goodness that Kat Deeley has enough compassion and common sense to make up for what the judges lack.

Mia has a hole in her soul that is filled with hostility with contemporary African American male dancers: Will, Brandon, Ade and now Adechike, Her dances are beautiful but her spirit is not. What she did to these four dancers (and the comment a few weeks ago about the tap dancer)are meanspirited and she knows it. Is she a racist? You have to look at her actions and the pattern of her actions.

As a teacher her apologies sicken me.

Being a judge is a difficult and she’s simply not up to it. Criticizing someone in a dance class or audition, and doing the same thing on national TV are vastly different. Unfortunately, she just hasn’t realized that. It’s pretty obvious that she was prompted to apologize and it was disingenuous. I assume the producers were concerned about her hurting her chances with the Emmy voters. Or perhaps some people who are close to her raised the alarm that she was hurting her own PR. I don’t believe she’s evil or racist. I just think she’s quite flawed and should be replaced.

“Geez black people are too quick to pull the race card these days.” I dont know if this was just a blanket statement but the woman who wrote this is as white as they come. Also, Dominque she is asking if the Mia is racist or just mean. and did you hit the google link? she is not the only person on the web to ask this question. also, their is a facebook page devoted to getting her off the judges panel for her comments throughout the season.

Mia is NOT racist, and this is from an African-American woman. She has not been mean to all black dancers, remember Joshua and Will? She LOVED them. And I cannot recall her being mean to Ade. I do recall her being hard on Brandon AT FIRST but then warming up to him. And remember her comment season 5 when Ade and Melissa danced that ballet piece, “I love how we have a white Juliet and a black Romeo” So puh-leeze 2 her being racist, Mia is a modern day hippie who is not racist at all. And what do Brandon, Ade, and Adechike have in common? They’re all brilliant dancers whp she wants to push to be better. Yes, her comments for Chike were bitchy and inappropriate, but not racist. Geez black people are too quick to pull the race card these days. And I felt her apology was herartfelt and real. Trust, Mia would NOT apologize if she felt she was right.
